LE GRAND MARCHÉ TRANSATLANTIQUE NE SE FERA PAS : lettre au Président Obama
Paroles et musique : la Parisienne Libérée

B. Obama

THERE WILL BE NO TRANSATLANTIC MARKET

Words and music : The Liberated Parisian

B. Obama
« And tonight, I’m announcing that we will launch talks on a comprehensive Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union. Because trade that is fair and free across the Atlantic supports millions of good-paying American jobs »

J. Kerry
President Obama believes there is a really unique opportunity looking at us now, and that is for the Transatlantic Partnership Investment and Trade Agreement

J. M. Barroso
« I’m delighted to announce today that the European Union and the United States have decided to initiate internal procedures to launch negotiations with the aim of reaching a ground breaking free trade agreement : the  Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership »

J. Kerry
« We think that this is something that can help lift the economy of Europe, strengthen our economy, create jobs for Americans, for Germans, for all Europeans, and create one of the largest allied markets in the world »

F. Hollande
« Here is my point of view. I’m in favor of opening negotiations in order to fight against a number of customs barriers and trade obstacles, and boost growth. But there must be guarantees regarding some sectors. »

Y. Jadot
« The content of the negotiating mandate is evolving. Even the Parliament members do not have access to the various versions of this mandate. »

E. Joly
« Because you know that the European Union, our Commission, driven by Barroso, in favor of free-market economy, has begun to negotiate a transatlantic treaty, a free trade agreement with the Unites States. (…) The majority in Europe today is very free-market-oriented, but for me, this means the death of political Europe. »

J. M. Barroso
« And I’d like to thank the business community on both sides of the Atlantic for their support !»

Dear President of the United States,
I am writing to you to announce that there will be no Transatlantic Market. Yes, I know, it’s a huge opportunity – maybe for you, but not for me. So I thought it over, and I have made my mind. My answer is no.
There will be no Transatlantic Market.

Dear and respected President of the United States,
The European Commission unfortunately lied to you. This is what happens when little soldiers, full of ambition, think they have power. Secretly plotting, longing to be partners, they wanted to charm you but misinformed you, believe me.
There will be no Transatlantic Market.

Dear, respected and highly regarded President of the United States,
I sincerely thank you for your generous promises of growth, but what I mainly need here, is a recovery plan. After that, we’ll see. Who knows, maybe later I shall resume the negotiations ? Meanwhile, without any hesitation, I’ll keep my corn, my data, my standards and my laws, and I’ll avoid the gigantic lawsuits led by private corporations against our States.
You see, for all those reasons, there will be no Transatlantic Market.

Dear, respected, highly regarded, powerful President of the United States of America,
Of course, I regret my leaders lacking the courage to speak frankly to you. So, before one of them sends you a clumsy mail or leaves a message on your answering machine, I prefer delivering it straight to you :
There will be no Transatlantic Market.
